Miracle of l’ West is Mont-Saint-Michell. The strongest impression of our trip is the mountain in l’ ocean, where the legend holy Michel deposits a demon.
As say it columns and historical stories, everything began with the phenomenon of holy Michel in l “local bishop in 708. Holy Michel strictly ordered the building d’ a temple on the rock. L “bishop had doubts, but after holy Michel appears to him for the third time, he realised that the building of the castle could not be postponed. A small temple was constructed to resemble the cave where took place the phenomenon of the upper Force, which orders are not discussed, but carried out.

There remains almost nothing of this ancient temple. In next centuries, pilgrims of all country moved on the rock – island. Since 966, the monks Benedictines took care of the building of the temple. Quality and conception of l and apos; architecture were such qu and apos; they were since worth near d’ one thousand years. At the foot of the mountain, they constructed a city to welcome the pilgrims, and in the summit began constructing a complex templaire and a monastery. The building was finished at the beginning of the 16th century.

Besides religious function, the monastery was defensive. Endless conflicts burst between l’ England and France in the course of the centuries. For natural and technological reasons, he was almost impossible of l’ besiege, and l’ architecture of l’ abbey of Mount Saint-Michel made us undamaged. The island – the castle was never pervaded…

During Big French Revolution. The revolutionary authorities transformed the monastery into prison.

Opening every day except January 1st, May 1st and December 25th.
