A charming ancient city in the hinterland of France, even before the Roman conquest in the 1950s BC, a tribe of Carnauts settled here. The city centre retained medieval style-narrow streets and numerous 13-18th century colombage houses.
Walking through the lower city, at the river Air-it is just a dive in the old, even surprise the stacks of schoolchildren or rare walking; and it seems that now due to the turn will appear knight or medieval citizen

Most travellers come to see the famous Chartres Cathedral Notre Dame Pearl of Gothic architecture. But there are other interesting temples:

The Abbey of Saint-Per-en-Valle (12-13 centuries), the churches of Saint-Brice (11 centuries) and St. André (12 centuries), the Gothic Cathedral of Saint-Pierre, and the Renaissance Cathedral of Saint-Anyan (16-17 centuries).

But it is in Notre Dame that the most valuable relic of the whole Christian world-Plath of the Holy Virgin is stored.

Many pilgrims coming to worship the Shrine are pleasantly surprised that the walk in itself on this ancient original town is so pleasant. Even if you are in no way interested in religious places, Chartre remains a great place to become familiar with Europe ‘s historical heritage.
